Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only food we feed our puppy We got our Rottweiler puppy when she was only 8 weeks old. The breeder weened the puppies on Iams so we kept her on it. Everyone comments on how beautiful her coat is. She has been gaining 10 lbs per month. I took her to the vet today, she gained 11 1/2 lbs since last month and she's not even 5 months old yet! We feed her the amount recommended on the package and no more. A beautiful coat, bright eyes, beautiful white teeth and 51 1/2 pounds tells me that this is the best for my puppy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Puppy Loving Fun I have a 6 month old lab / pitbull mix. Beatiful little thing! Been feeding her purina one healthy puppy. The last two months have been really bad with it. Unknown to us the food is too soft and was getting moldy at the pet store. Even the 13 year old sheperd lab i have that will eat anything wouldnt touch it. Poor little pup kept getting sick, wasnt growing fast. 2 weeks ago we started switching her off her special diet of boiled chicken and rice. We started Iams Smart Puppy. Withing 2 days we noticed the difference in her livelyhood. She is back to normal running like crazy, barking at everything, jumping, and wrestling with the aheperd lab. Thanks Iams!!!! This pup got me out of a major depression. Iams brought my baby back to life! It brought me back to life! Will never use another brand again!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Satisfied Pet owner Using IAMS for 20+ Years I have been using Iams products since 1993. At first I used Eukanuba, but as time went on I switched to Iams, as there isn't a whole lot of a difference in the ingredients, and things such as glucosamine and chronditin that are in the puppy formulas of Eukanuba can easily be supplemented with a small pill for alot less. Every dog and cat that I have had and was/is on Iams has a slick, healthy, shiny coat. As soon as I took any of my pets off of Iams to try such foods as "Nutro Max, now know as MAX", you'd see a difference in their coats within a few days. Iams tends to help control shedding in those breeds with heavy coats. ALL of my pets that were on Iams lived long, healthy lives, and those that are still with me are going strong. Those that I had before using Iams didn't live as long, weren't as healthy, and their coats didn't have that shine. I just put down my 14 yr old GSD. She was in perfect health other than for the osteoarthritis that comes with the territory. 2 months before I put her down, all of her blood came back perfect and within range, as we had to keep an eye on her liver values. She was also on 1500mg of Glucosamine and MSM with 1000 mg of fish oil (she always had a somewhat dry coat - was just the way she was built) daily. I contribute her health and the health of all of my pets to this food. For those of you who know GSDs, 14 years with one of them is exceptional and a gift! People seem to think that the more expensive the food, the better it is. Alot of these newer brands have way too much protein in them. Especially for cats, and if you have a cat with kidney issues, those more expensive foods will contribute to renal failure and cause your pet to have to be placed on veterinary prescribed foods quicker, and they're not cheap. Pets tend to not like those veterinary foods and will literally STARVE before they eat it. I started using Iams products before they were in found in the grocery stores. At one time, the only place you could find Iams was in a high end pet store, and this was before Petco and PetSmart. By popular demand, it was put into some grocery stores and Walmart and such. Don't let anyone tell you that Iams isn't a good quality food or that it's a "grocery store" brand food. I was using it WAY BEFORE it was put into the grocery store, and to be honest, it made my life a bit easier not having to travel to the high end pet store to feed my pets. I swear by this brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not a bad brand at all! #Perfect I recently got a 4 weeks old puppy, turning 5 this week. He's a Alaskan Husky/Yellow Lab mixed very adorable breed. He's supposed to be with mama dog until 6 weeks, but I was so impatient and just so excited about getting him that the owner allowed me to take him home a day after 4 weeks he suggested me to feed him soft wet food until he turns 6 weeks. So I went to buy him the high quality brand name soft wet food he ate the food but had a little problem eating the whole thing, plus everytime he potty its always watery or mushy. So I wanted to do it my own way by start feeding him puppy dry food, so after 2 days of feeding him soft wet food I wasn't happy, I decided to go buy IAMS Puppy food (Large Breed) to feed him, at first I was worried that he can't eat dry food yet and was worried that his poo will be the same. But I still gave it a try, after a day of eating IAMS puppy food there was a different his poo was solid I mean solid. So that means this puppy food went through his body and digest real well. I'm surprised he ate it, he ate the whole bow. And now that I him for 4 days, everytime he hears me open the bag he wag his tail and run to me in a very exciting mood. For those, who complain about how bad this food is then I disagree with you. And in my belief, I think its not so much about the more it cost the better its about how your puppy/dog accept it and how his or her body works. Every puppy/dog is different. I can easily go buy Blue Rhino brand which is pricey but if it has the same effect then why not go with IAMS which cost half the price. I don't care how much money you have or make, its about keeping your pets healty & strong and shopping smart. If your pets is liking the food then you know the food isn't that bad. Last but not least, IAMS is giving me and my little boy a good vibe for a start! I'll stick with IAMS for good. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our precious Emmie LOVES this food! Our new puppy was found stranded out on the East Side of San Antonio. She was in generally good health but when we got her she needed some good food and her coat was dry and very dull. After just a week on this food, she began to shine. We tried another brand before this one and she did not like it that much. As soon as we began feeding her this, she just gobbled it up and she still does at each meal time. Her fur is just beautiful and she will grow into a gorgeous dog! She was already very smart but this food seems to make her more alert and full of energy. Her first vet appointment went very well and she got all A's! She is half Border Collie and half Black Lab and is just brilliant! We will keep her on Iams forever. Thank you for such a great product that is priced to meet my very tight budget!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PICKY PUPPIES FAVORITE I swear we have probably tried every brand or variety of dry dog food that there is. Ever since our Lil' Lucy was just a baby Boxer, she has always been a pretty picky eater, or at the least becomes easily bored with her food.I am sure that part of the reason is due to her being so ill when we got her. From about the time she was 10 weeks old until she was 13-14 weeks, we had to feed her with a monojet (needle-less syringe) full of liquid puppy food & vitamins literally every hour. She had double pneumonia, and with how fast her lungs had filled with water, her Vet told me straight out that her odds of surviving this was unlikely. Now he did say it in nicer words, or try to, because there is no way to sugar coat something like that. But between her strong will and our love, we fought her back to health. THANK GOD.... But it seems like the feeding battle has never really seemed to end. Even with mixing in things like chicken and other types of meats Lucy would still not eat. At least not consistently or thoroughly, which meant that we would end up wasting the majority of it. Not to mention how irregular her bowel movements where from the constant changes to her diet.So our search continued, trying to find a food appealing to our growing puppy, but also one that our non-growing pocket could afford. The consideration of just wet food was something we where starting to think might be our only option. Though we had really hoped to eventually have her on a wholly dry food diet, for our sake and for hers.So when we where able to buy Iams Proactive Smart Puppy Large Breed a second time, and then a third time, we knew we may actually have a fighting chance at the dry food idea. Now many more bags of it later, we are now successfully mixing in adult food. Which is Perfect, considering her 2nd Birthday is right around the corner, which will make our Boxer a puppy no more... Other than in our eyes and heart...So we say Thank You to Iams, for our little girls health and helping keep our sanity in the matter...Sincerely The Widowski Family, Rob, Crystal, Alyssa, Mia & Lucy Widowski

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for my baby Like most commercial brands, this is loaded with corn, by-products, and preservatives. The chicken is terrible quality too. Where are the fruits, and vegetables? Most decent brands have peas, blueberries, and raspberries. Spend the extra money on a real food for your real puppy. This is corn with meat flavor.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from my dog liked it My dog liked this food but it was too much volume for me to feed a great dane. His coat wasn't as shiny and he experienced dandruff. And cleaning up all the poop wasn't fun. Great food for large breeds, not so great for giant breeds

Rated 4 out of 5 by from What a Pitbull named Guy thinks Guy or 5 month old Pitty has ate Iams large breed puppy food since we brought him home at 6 weeks of age. It quickly cut down on the excessive gas he had from the food that the prior owner had him on. Hes loved it since the beginning and still gobbles it up as soon as we release him from his stay command. (He's a good boy) We are however switching him to a different food because of breed specific issues, not related to the food.
